Sometimes you have to do the less fun parts

This is something I’ve learned in my work and life time and time again- and probably why I haven’t actually dedicated myself to finding an agent until now (here we go 2025!)

This morning I had my left neck treatment (stellate ganglion block to the left side, where my lingering trigemal neuralgia likes to pop up now and again) after having the right side done yesterday. Add to that a literally ice-day (meaning no school because the roads are so slick half the city can’t get around) and I’m here at home, forcing myself to make a list of the agents who I should query instead of getting back to the book I am DESPERATE to keep working on.

It’s called F***, Marry, Kill, and is the story of a trio of famous friends. The book is the name of their DJ group, and the characters are the fun, naughty, bubblegum-haired Mel, the tattooed, swoon-worthy and soulful singer Leo, and the all-American good-guy Eamon. Eamon and Mel are married, and their fame is completely wrapped up in their social media status as a perfect couple. Unfortunately they’ve been separated over a year, pretending to be married for their fans because they have no other choice- neither can secure outside work without the other.

On the night Mel decides she’s going to give Eamon another chance she finds him dead in his apartment, and is immediately attacked. After waking up in the hospital, the devoted Leo at her side, she finds out that not only does no one believe that she has no idea what Eamon’s been up to but she is the main suspect for their crime.

As you can probably tell, it’s a fantastic story and I love Mel’s character as she gives me a chance to weave my weird humor into the story- something I think my other books have been missing out on and I’d like to integrate a little more.

But instead of working on that, I will do what needs to be done. Respond to emails, make agent lists, and at some point lay back and let this SG block work it’s magic and help my still-recovering body the chance to heal.

Wish me luck.
